Hey guys,
Here's a few pics from our time in Malaysia. We went on a mission trip for about 2 weeks with some our our good friends from Japan. We were based in Kuching and visited many jungle villages, meeting some special people along the way. Enjoy :)
Our first meal in Malaysia - at KL airport.
Tim, Hachan and I crossing a traditional jungle bridge at the Sarawak cultural village.
We had a man from the bidayuh tribe give us a very informative tour. It was a great blessing as later in the trip we spent most of our time with Bidayuh people.
Here's us pounding tree bark which they then make clothes out of.
Here's the local form of the good ol' kiwi BBQ back in the day.
Sweet coconut and rice treats - freshly made and delicious.
At the cultural village performance Hachan got called up on stage and blew the arrow straight into the balloon, first pop! Nice shot.
Adeleine (middle) kindly showed us around Kunching on our first day.
Just to show how lush it is around here.
Nice little boat ride over to an island.
The food at the local cafe near Good News Fellowship church in Kuching. We sure never went hungry.
We took a session with some of the kids in the city who come to church for maths and english tuition. They are from the poorer part of the city.
Hachan made origami with the kids and talked about how we are created and loved by God.
Tim preaching at the combined youth service in Kuching. He shared about us needing to keep our cups full, along with a great illustration using a jug of water and cups.
Supper! Not just a cup of tea and some bikkies!
On our way up to Sauh and Simuti villages, enjoying a local drink.
At Sauh village with Pastor Napeg - he has a great smile!
Lunch - including durian fruit! not our favourite but Hachan enjoyed it.
Tim enjoyed talking and really getting to know the people.
Walking around the village.
This was a bridge over to someone's house.
Worship up in Simuti - beautiful! and loved seeing the kids lead worship.
Tim being a chicken with some of the kids. We shared about how God goes looking for all those who are missing, just like if a chicken goes missing.
We taught the kids a Japanese song. They loved it and picked it up so fast.
A nice refreshing swim at a waterfall.
We loved meeing Richie and enjoyed some off the kuff worship with him.
Games time - it wouldn't be us without some games would it?
Now to another village - called Karu.
Here we spend 3 days doing a kids programme each afternoon. First day the kids made Origami.
Hachan shared great messages with the kids. She had them eating out of her hand.
Back to Kuching to share at an English speaking young adults meeting. We really enjoyed hanging out with quality people and getting to share about our story and how Jesus has led us to Japan.
Games during the kids programme.
First day at the kids programme we had about 40 kids (about the amount we were expecting).
Second day 72!
Hachan taught one or two of the kids guitar.
Day two at the kids programme we made our own instruments with whatever we could find in the village. Here's a good idea.... a couple of rocks turn into a great percussion instrument.
Filling cans with stones to make shakers.
And we then used our instruments to make music to God. It was noisy!!
But fantastic. I loved how we can use anything to sing to God... even beer cans filled with stones :)
We played 'Rainbow' everyday.
Tim being....well Tim!
Pastor Sut showed us around the village and the neighbouring village.
The last day of the kids programme was about 'every piece is important'.
We had twice as many kids so here we are cutting every piece of the puzzle in half !
My special friend Priska.
Tim's special friend Otniel.
We went back to Karu in the weekend and shared at the Sunday service. Pastor Sut and Joanna were wonderful and became our Malaysian parents.
Hachan did caligraphy with the kids.
The kids found one piece of the puzzle each (we hid them around the room) and then we completed the puzzle together).
Prayer time.
Time to say goodbye :(
Joined now by Graeme and Lucy. We went for lunch in the Malay part of town.
Friday night meeting at MJC church.
That's all folks. Thanks for wading your way through all the photos.
We are so thankful to God for his grace and protection during this trip.
Nice pictures dude! Really inspiring the things your doing. Seek first the kingdom! :D
